In 2017, Senator Hefferfan addressed the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee recommending a Royal Commission into The Institution of The Law to deal with alleged paedophiles in the community who are prominent members of government, the judiciary, and law enforcement . He stated that the institution of the Law is "compromised at the highest level". No Prime Minister, no Attorney General and no politician in government since has pursued the matter, instead they have covered up the claims to protect each other, giving no regard to the victims of the sexual abuses.
Law enforcement have a list of 28 alleged paedophiles, including a Prime Minister and other prominent individuals in Australian society. The list which includes, a Prime Minister, Judges, Law enforcement, prominent personalities in the Arts, Education and Media, has been suppressed by the government.
On 10 November 2020, Independent MP-Andrew Wilkie tabled a petition to the Petitions Committee to lift the suppression order signed by 8,782 people. Mr Wilkie's office has advised that they are still waiting for a response from the Attorney General's Department. Since then a similar petition on Change.org has recorded in excess of 31, 000 signatures.
